With me, which is surprising considering my own music's genre, I've mostly been into Classic Rock. Be it Metal Bands like Def Leppard or Psychedelics like Pink Floyd.

That said, I am open to music outside that. Top faves being 80s Synth and New Wave, by great musicians like John Carpenter, Vangelis and Tangerine Dream. 90s Grunge like Nirvana. Hip Hop/Rap from the late 80s to mid 2000s such as Run DMC, Will Smith, Eminem and DMX (R.I.P.). Electronica like Daft Punk. Reggae, especially the Marleys. Some Dubstep like Skrillex. Movie score music from the likes of John Williams. Finally, chiptune and other game scores from whoever the hell did the music for every licensed Nintendo Game.

My musical tastes are like multiple personality syndrome. I might be really into a band like Fugazi for a few months, then switch over to OutKast, then go on a three month bender of Slavic folk music or Mongolian throat singing.

I can't think of anyone cooler to me than Mastodon at the moment. Thanks to this thread, I just noticed they have some new stuff out now too.
Nonphenomenal Lineage by Grandaddy. Actually the whole of the Under the Western Freeway album is good stuff.
