newgrounds is generally pretty cool in the terms that the people who have weird or fucked up sounding ideas might not be trying to troll necessarily, but are genuinely trying to express their perspective based off of what they have seen which creates a humanizing transparency where you can see whether someone is genuinely hateful, confused on how to express unconventional or less often traversed ideas, being an asshole for no reason, or some mixture of the three... i cant exactly say i am an expert on the history of culture on any website which i dont think anyone can say, but I think ng is going in a much better direction and its insane past that could maybe be likened to un named extremely popular chan site in some ways but definitely not too many, and this history was sort of a trial by fire that left the sites culture itself with some sort of wisdom that guides it, whereas tumblr has picked up the refuse of the dying waves of early internet hidden sociopath death and murder culture, and also has been a sponge for the young and recently birthed mass wave of anxiety, depression, myriads of other mental illnesses, and teenage tendency to imitate and mistake these conditions as our technological and social pressure increases with extreme waves of technology like cell phones more internet everywhere etc. etc. flooding our world.

how does this affect what a final jurisdiction on the unique place in the web for any website should be and specifically NG? personally, the more websites you use and gain experience with the more adept you will become and the stronger your presence will be which is ironic coming from someone who personally always denounced the use of alts which are obviously very useful tools in pruning, maintaining, and guiding the climate and culture of your web presence/social circles in an unseen way, but does not give you the flat out "Gary V' strength of always documenting in personal connection to your own identity which definitely gives you a branding power. as i get older i feel more inclined to just give up the concept of different personas in different areas of the web and fall into the simple method of use, even though if I was a web admin i would very probably find the use of alt extremely necessary in some ways, and very useful in others.

there is definitely something to be said about the nurturing aspect of this website in that it seems to almost eerily exist to serve the smaller in development artists and help them see their potentials and grow to something bigger as many many animation industry dudes have developed themselves personally on NG and then moved on to become professional and work bigger gigs, working for adult swim, growing their own online presences to be huge, of course like i said, i am not a historian so it could be the case that many of them simply used NG in conjunction with other web communities that have this same nurturing quality (feels weird to say 'nurturing' like this so I should probably mention that its sort of hidden but ingrained into the ethic of the process of submitting and being a part of the community as a while, its not called "growingartistground" "mommygrounds" or any other wacky assortment, it is what it is despite my perspective on what it has to offer and how it has been known to develop smaller artists into bigger ones) , honestly, this comparison of websites and their functions and cultural and community purposes are makes me wonder about my own use style of use of communities and wonder if i am really doing myself the service i ought to, or if i am slow and lagging behind developmentally and could be networking and building a much better presence for myself, to wonder this i guess is to some extent everyones karma either way though.

of course some people have had gripes that NG seems to feature a sort of monopoly of the already established artists although this doesnt really seem always true when you consider the variety of different users featured on the front page and the fact that without many of these more known / insider artists to the ng community contributing, we wouldnt have as much good content, and it would be better if more bigger artists submitted to breathe more life (and traffic) into the site

when it comes to the interface, obviously NG is pretty good, again not a web design expert but you can just tell when it feels FAST to move from place to place on a site and navigate it in a way that is COMFORTABLE, which tumblr has for a very long time very OBVIOUSLY not represented at all. of course there are social aspects that can be viewed one way or another that newgrounds may be limited on, but probably for the better as some communities seem to allow members to thrive through techniques that other websites may consider abuse, or maybe even are overlooked by the mods and staff of bigger sites because its too big for them to scour everyone who decides to use gimmicks.. personally i think gimmicks to a certain extent are largely a big part of the reason anyone anywhere is able to"succeed" harkening back to the fact that evolution is based out of evolvign animals competing for resources, but this is me getting off topic and also leads to much dirtier questions like how to balance the preservation and nurturing of humanity while coming to terms with the animalistic and power driven struggle for life...

i think the biggest thing to remember is that every website is going to give you a different experience, and you never know what will happen, but what will happen is definitely based off of your own decision and where you decide to navigate to on any given website (given that it is large enough or that you can find all of the different spaces that exist) . i can testify in this regard, i have met some g ass motha fuckas on this website and thats real as fuq. there are times when i have had better luck finding the certain kinds of niche communities that I am looking for on this site and others , and this also varies in their accessibility to me and their genuine connection to what they seem to be representing to me. this is sort of the reason i favor ng now having a chat room altho i dont blame them for taking awhile as it can be complicated to set things up, but compared to tumblr chat system, which is a glorified DM system, NG has always had the obviously necessary Private Messages, and also has a very well functioning chat feature which allows you to talk to people and this also, humanizes the experience and allows you to understand more
